The opportunity
Supporting our Port Stephens Council Waste Strategy, we’re seeking an experienced leader to drive change and strategic direction across our Waste portfolio.
As Strategic Waste Coordinator, your focus will be on all aspects of strategic solid waste and recycling collection, processing and disposal services through contracts and service agreements, including contract and asset management.
Developing and reviewing policies that have significant resource and political implications, you will provide specialist advice to senior leadership across the organisation with regard to the overall direction Council will take when it comes to Waste.
Stepping into the role at a pivotal time to drive change and innovation at a Strategic level, you will play a vital role in growing Council’s confidence and progress on key waste priorities, planning for future pathways and in turn strengthening our contractor relationships and performance.
- This is a permanent opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
- Base Salary Range: $117,660 to $138,428 pa based on 35 hours / week + 12% superannuation + $11,211 motor vehicle allowance + $2,464 retention allowance
- You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

- A degree qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or equivalent
Post graduate qualifications in Waste Management - Demonstrated experience in project management, including the preparation and review of budgets and ability to work within timeframes
- Demonstrated experience in contract management and administration, including monitoring and quality assurance standards
- Experience in the preparation of strategic and policy documents
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with legislation, regulation and Codes of Practice that impact on waste management issues
- Proven experience in waste management operations
- Prior employment in a commercial waste management field
