Basic Purpose
Coordinates assigned projects and tasks; obtains baseline environmental data, and supplies data and support to upper-level advisers or scientists; works within the department and corporation, to include generation, transmission, distribution, substations, facilities, and other business areas as assigned.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Gathers baseline environmental data and participates in sampling/field collection activities and recommends appropriate monitoring equipment; oversees installation and testing.
Ensures timely and accurate inspections, sampling, analysis, compliance testing, recordkeeping, monitoring, reporting, and training.
Advises, educates, and supports respective management in maintaining compliance with terms and conditions outlined in facility permits.
Works on several detailed projects and issues at once, understand basic engineering requirements, coordinating, analyzing, tracking costs, and minimizing environmental risk.
Coordinates and assist with corrective actions resulting from audits or agency inspections.
Supports multiple Advisers and Scientists as a project team member and a resource specialist.
Participates in working groups with regulatory agencies and industry trade organizations and acts as point of contact to environmental agencies for compliance issues.
Provides alternatives or solutions for consideration on environmental problems.
Contributes to the preparation and review of new permit applications and permit renewals and implements internal training and education programs; makes special technical presentations as needed.
Interprets laboratory/field analytical results and compares to regulatory requirements.
Assists with spill clean-up, on-call emergency response and wildlife emergencies.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Bachelor's degree from an accredited school in environmental science, engineering, or related discipline and 4 years of related experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Innovative solutions to diverse environmental challenges encountered at various business unit facilities.
- GPS, mapping, and sampling/field collection protocols.
- Environmental laws and regulations
- Unit conversions, concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and statistics.
- Hazardous waste, hazardous material handling, storage, and transportation regulations.
- corporate policies, environmental management systems, and regulations and how they affect their work.
- All facets of air quality emissions monitoring using continuous emissions monitoring equipment.
- Water resource management, water quality monitoring and compliance projects in an electric utility or industrial environment.
- Project routing, siting, and associated permitting.
Demonstrated skills such as:
- Analytical, interpersonal and communication.
- Listening and observation skills
- Time management
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or walk up to 2/3 of the time and sit up to 1/3 of the time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing. Some travel required, including driving. Exposed to outside weather conditions during fieldwork and in power plant environments. Ability to walk/hike in remote areas to identify plants and wildlife.
